A message from our founder

The founder of Work in the City Amsterdam

When I created Work in the City Amsterdam in 2005, I thought I was "bad" at networking. To me, networking meant awkward self-promotion and forced conversations.

Then, after a few years in Amsterdam, I realised I was missing a space to meet women with backgrounds, ambitions and questions close to my own.

I simply reached out to a few women from the French grandes écoles, thinking each of them might know a few others. And that's how the adventure began.

Since then, I've come to understand just how essential sisterhood is to thriving — life isn't meant to be lived alone, and professional life even less so.

As Oprah Winfrey puts it, we all need a "kitchen cabinet": trusted women, each an expert in her own way, with whom to think things through, share our doubts, see our blind spots and make better decisions.

Work in the City is exactly that place — where you meet these extraordinary women, the ones who inspire us, challenge us and stand by us.

A network endures when it rests on a clear vision, strong values and the energy of the women who keep it alive.

Thank you to everyone who has carried Work in the City Amsterdam forward after me. I am proud and happy to see this wonderful community keep growing.

— Delphine Mousseau, 2026
